Trip to Estado 29 Orphanage on July 16, 2022
A fellow Rotarian Ani Akopian came with her daughter Dahlia, Elizabeth Manasserian and a few other members of the CAC Christ Armenian Church. They had a great time and also provided for all the provisions for the Orphanage for 2 months. They made this beautiful video to summarize the trip.

Our visit to the orphanage started with the yearly shoe buying trip. We donated a playground set for the little kids, sheet sets for their beds and got to see a wonderful Christmas show in return.

Trip to the Orphanage with Audiologist Dr. Julia Shih – Feb 2018
Here are some pictures from our last trip to Estado 29 Orphanage. We were blessed to be able to take Doctor Julia Shih with us. She is a Audiologist that practices in Pasadena and is a part of the Rotary group also in Pasadena. She was able to check and clean all the kids ears and made sure they were all healthy. Thanks for all your hard work Julia, Kathy S. and all the others that donated the items we took with us. As you can see the kids were super happy!
Donated items we brought from home. Donated by our fellow Facebook followers. Thank you!

traffic breathing gasoline fumes,” he noted. Fortunately, that was hardly a typical trip. According to Rangwala, the weekend excursions
typically begin on a Saturday morning at 6 a.m. when he (accompanied with others, including his family) drives to the orphanage. The trip usually takes about five hours one-way. “We spend the whole day Saturday hanging out with the kids and we go to the local grocery store over there and buy vegetables and meat — food and groceries and stuff. Then we fill up their pantry,” he added. “We can sleep there [at the orphanage] when we go. We come back on Sunday afternoon.”
laughed. So, I kept giving it to him over the years because he was a nice kid. Then, when he was like 17, I told him: ‘It’s time to fly away and support the orphanage because now it’s time to leave. You’re a man now.’ “So, a few months later the kid got himself a job. Now, he’s a supervisor of a 24-hour plant in
about $44,000 worth of money needs to be raised so that we can build solar panels where the utility bills will be free. With the money we save, we can send about four or five kids — depending on how much we save — and send them to college annually.” Now, Rangwala and the Rotary Club members have the ability to accept public funding on a much bigger level; before, they relied solely on fundraising through the Rotary Club and hosting events at
people’s houses.
About ten years ago, he served as a translator and a photojournalist for a humanitarian mission to a village near Bangalore, India, when a team of about 20 doctors, nurses and emergency room personnel donated their services to perform approximately 125 cleft lip and cleft palate surgeries
on children who otherwise could not afford it. Rangwala has also collected about 20,000 pounds of warm winter garments during 16 years of
Coats for Kids’ drives that he has overseen. Still, Estado 29 is his favorite charity; it will always hold a special place in his heart.

Repaired some water damage and delivered donated bicycles – May 2016
Another great trip to the orphanage. We were busy all weekend. We put in some construction work to repair water damage in the kitchen, we picked up lots of food at the local supermarket and enjoyed watching the kids ride their 5 new bikes that were donated. It was a fun and productive visit and can’t wait to go again.
Trip on Valentine’s Day dropping off much needed towels. Feb 2016
Trips to Estado 29 are always used to not only supply the immediate needs of the kids, but also to determine future needs. During a recent trip we learned that these beautiful children did not have enough towels. A true miracle then happened.
After expressing the need to multiple organizations (including several Rotary Clubs and church groups) several people donated immediately. It was enough to bring this Rotarian to tears.
We arrived at the orphanage ready to give new towels to 50 children. As we got out of the car the children were immediately told to go to the dining hall for some special presents. The excitement on their faces told the whole story. At the dining hall they were told to get in line where the children were given new towels, even appropriate colors for the girls and boys. The smile on the faces of these children told the whole story. It never ceases to amaze how the things one takes for granted can be true miracles to others. Perhaps once again the greatest lesson was than in giving we received so much more. The continued love of these children.
